The media could not be loaded. Bought this again as we were happy with the first one. They seemed to have changed the design and made it very easy to open. Our toddler can open the switch and press the button that detaches it from the wall. Not happy at all!

TLDR: I really want to love this product it almost works. But my 1 year as well as our two cats can easily push the gate and unseat the clips even when it’s tightened. The instructions are good and the template makes set up very easy. The quality of the materials are generally good. The locking mechanism does get a bit stuck sometimes. What I’ve realised is that whilst in theory this is a very flexible design where you can adapt to different situations and environments, the clip placement is critical. Also if you have a determined toddler they will eventually unlock it. What the design needs is something that prevents the clips from unlatching. I’ll probably end up drilling a hole through the clip and using a carabiner to lock it in place but this is fiddly. Need a slight design rethink.

Disclaimer: Not yet actually installed this, but have thoroughly inspected and planned. This is a sturdy, well-engineered baby gate that is nicely finished (no sharp corners etc); however it does have some shortcomings. * The actual "gate" is an opaque material, tough but non-see-through. In use you'd need to be careful to look over to check baby's fingers are not going to get caught as the spring rewinds the material into the housing. It also means that if baby (or pet) is near the gate, you cannot monitor them easily from the other side. * The instructions are very clear NOT to install this at the top of a flight of stairs... probably the most useful place for it. I can just about understand why, but it seems to defeat the purpose a little. Putting it at the bottom of the stairs means that when you are coming down and need to open it, you have to reach downwards, forwards and round the corner to unlatch it; not great especially if you're carrying anything * The method of unlatching would be fine with a rigid gate, but with the end (which has top and bottom catches) fixed to the very flexible material of the gate, some twisting is almost inevitable which means you'll need to hold the unlatching part very firmly so that both top and bottom unhook. None of these are deal-breakers, but take them into consideration when choosing. Note that the advice against having the gate at the top is probably true for ALL baby gates... We'll be using this to keep cats out of the kitchen area of a through kitchen / dining room. They're fast but they're no longer young and hopefully won't be jumping over this!

I have a dog who knows where the treats are and is also convinced that he just has to go into the room where his food is prepared to be fed. Unfortunately, the door is swollen so doesn't always close and I've been using an old garden chair to block entry but this mesh gate looked like a much better option, especially as not everyone keeps the chair in place... I didn't expect the material which is used for the gate part, I thought it would be a fabric mesh but it's rubbery. The fittings take up more room that I had allowed so I can't use it where I wanted but it's now blocking the passage to the door where one of the dogs insists on sleeping - and that means I can't get out. This gate makes life much easier, no more being trapped in the hall, hoping my big dog will wake up agree to move! It's a lovely quality spring gate and I'm very happy with it, so much easier than the old metal ones which need removing every time you want to enter a room or where you have to try to lift up the entry part within the gate so it opens. I'm not deducting any points for not being able to use it where I had hoped as that's a me issue, not the product's fault. Both dogs see it as the barrier it is and don't try to move it – unlike the old chair, 5*
